Disgrace for Neymar clouds Mbappe's heroics! PSG winners, losers & ratings as Brazilian punished for diving vs Strasbourg

Kylian Mbappe netted a late winner for PSG against Strasbourg on Wednesday but Neymar's dismissal overshadowed the occasion.

The Brazilian sulked his way off the pitch, kicking a loose ball in frustration after seeing two yellow cards within 90 seconds. It was a sobering end to an electric 62 minutes from Neymar.

All neat flicks and darting dribbles, he had controlled the match before throwing the result into jeopardy by picking up an unnecessary second booking for a dive in the Strasbourg penalty area.

It was a moment not out of character for the oft-criticised forward. Neymar has long been maligned for his short temper and penchant for going to ground. But this time, it could have cost his team dearly.

The Brazilian is lucky, then, that his side have match winners elsewhere. In the 94th minute, Mbappe burst into the box before being dragged down. The referee swiftly pointed to the spot, and the Frenchman tucked his go-ahead penalty past a sprawling goalkeeper to give the Ligue 1 leaders a 2-1 win over the 19th-placed side.

In the end, then, Mbappe was the difference. But for a PSG side expected to demolish teams of Strasbourg's calibre, the Neymar incident is probably what will be remembered most.

Getty ImagesThe Winners

Kylian Mbappe:

What a confusing night for the Frenchman. Any notions of an Mbappe revenge performance were put on hold for 90 minutes. He was as energetic as ever, full of runs and darting dribbles, but Strasbourg always had an extra man waiting. There were moments of visible frustration, angry glances at team-mates, and arms waved in protest.

But he showed up in added time, surging into the box to win a penalty, burying it, and celebrating wildly in front of the home fans. It was far from his best night, but with Messi absent and Neymar sent off, Mbappe stepped up.

El Chadaille Bitshiabu:

With Nuno Mendes and Juan Bernat both injured, the 6-foot-6 left back was called into action for his first league start. And he hardly put a foot wrong, timing his tackles well and winning all of his aerial duels.

It became pretty clear early on that Strasbourg were trying to target his side – such is the defensive weakness of Mbappe. But Bitshiabu equipped himself well under pressure, and made a case for more minutes going forward. He's still not good enough on the ball to be a regular, but at 17, there's plenty of time for development.

Marquinhos:

What a lucky night for the Brazilian! He scored PSG's first with a well-taken header, before slicing the ball into his own net for Strasbourg's equaliser.

His own goal was forgotten after Neymar's red card and Mbappe's winner.

Marquinhos' embarrassment didn't cost PSG any points. He will have better performances in a PSG shirt, but can consider himself lucky that this won't be remembered as a consequential one.

Neymar:

The Brazilian had a typically polarising night, but nearly cost his team two points after being sent off for diving with about 30 minutes remaining. He was kicked early and often by Strasbourg's midfield, and by the second half it was clearly getting to him. Neymar lashed out at Thomasson to pick up a first yellow, and then blatantly dove just 90 seconds later to earn himself a second.

It was a silly two minutes to ruin what had otherwise been an impressive showing from the Brazilian. He was at the center of everything for PSG for the first 45 minutes, and provided the assist for Marquinhos to open the scoring.

Christophe Galtier:

The PSG coach will likely be happy with the result, but there are few positives to take from the performance. His side was languid throughout, and didn't create too many real chances.

Neymar's red card also gives him a selection headache with Messi likely not ready to return to training following Argentina's World Cup win and Mbappe now also out.

PSG play second-place Lens on Sunday, and Galtier will have to get a far better showing out of his side to put them away.

PSG Ratings: Defence

Gianluigi Donnarumma (7/10): Denied Gameiro from close range to maintain PSG's lead in the first half. Could do little about the Strasbourg goal. Distributed well, snagged some awkward crosses under pressure.

Nordi Mukiele (6/10): Made some dangerous runs down the right, but was sloppy on the ball. Visibly uncomfortable when asked to play on the left in the closing stages.

Sergio Ramos (6/10): Ramos was given a difficult night by the physical Ludovic Ajorque. Only won one of his seven aerial duals, and looked uncomfortable on the ball.

Marquinhos (6/10): Opened the scoring with a free header before putting one into his own net.

El Chadaille Bitshiabu (7/10): Excellent defensively in his first Ligue 1 start. Made seven recoveries, including one last ditch block to keep his side ahead in the first half. Was caught out of position for Strasbourg's equalizer.

Midfield

Fabian Ruiz (7/10): Lots of ideas, little execution. Won the ball back with regularity and looked to link up with PSG's attacking trio, but never found the killer ball.

Marco Verratti (5/10): Far from his best night after being handed a contract extension. Gave away the ball that led to Strasbourg's equaliser, and was uncharacteristically poor on the ball.

Vitinha (7/10): Unspectacular. Didn't create much and offered little protection for young left back Bitshiabu. Substituted in the 73rd minute after an ineffective night.

FAQs: What kind of football boots are there?

There are six kinds of football boots, by and large, available, and each is custom-built to tackle a particular surface. For safety reasons, anyone, whether children or adults, must have the proper boots. There are firm ground (FG), soft ground (SG), multi-ground (MG), artificial grass (AG), Astroturf, and indoor court (IC) shoes, and we've outlined what you'll need below.

What is the difference between children's and adults' boots?

Children's and adult boots are arguably more similar than ever, with the top-of-the-line technology in the professional game scaled down for youngsters on matchdays. But there are some key differences. Boots for kids may be crafted with a little more bulk to add extra protection, while their stud configurations may well be lesser to reduce the need for consistent maintenance.

Due to the ease of wear, laceless options are an increasingly common option among children's boots. If you'd like to see all of the best laceless boots currently available, check out GOAL's guide to the best laceless boots for children.

What are the best football boots for kids?

The best individual type of boot will depend on what you hope to achieve with your game and which position kids will be playing in. Football pitches can be split into roughly half-a-dozen different categories. Depending on which one you play on most, you'll want to purchase a boot that best enhances your performance in those particular positions. The guide outlines the best characteristics of each boot like speed, responsiveness, and ball control which will help you decide which kids' football boot is best for you.

England U21s player ratings vs Czech Republic: Noni Madueke thrills before Jacob Ramsey and Emile Smith Rowe secure victory in Euros opener

The Chelsea winger starred as Lee Carsley's team got the victory they needed to ensure a perfect start to the tournament in Georgia

England Under-21s made the perfect start to the European Championship as Jacob Ramsey's goal early in the second half proved to be the difference in their 2-0 win over the Czech Republic in their tournament opener.

Lee Carsley's side dominated possession from the off, and Chelsea winger Noni Madueke should have opened the scoring before half-time, the closest of his three efforts clipping the crossbar on its way over. The Young Lions were, though, indebted to goalkeeper James Trafford, as the Manchester City shot-stopper made two fine saves to deny Vasil Kusej before the break, while the Czech forward also fired wide when well placed.

England eventually took the lead two minutes after half-time, as Aston Villa youngster Ramsey broke from midfield, traded a one-two with Anthony Gordon and slotted a fine finish into the bottom corner. And though England had a couple of scares, the win was thoroughly well deserved given their dominance, though they had to wait until stoppage-time to seal it, as Cameron Archer squared for fellow substitute Emile Smith Rowe to tap into an empty net.

GOAL rates England's players from the Batumi Arena in Georgia…

Getty ImagesGoalkeeper & Defence

James Trafford (7/10):

Made three fine saves and very comfortable when in possession as England built from the back.

James Garner (7/10):

Played out of position at right-back but you'd barely have known. Combined brilliantly with Madueke going forward.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (6/10):

Dominant in the air but looked nervy when defending one-on-one.

Levi Colwill (7/10):

Cruised through the game for the most part. Does not lack for confidence.

Max Aarons (6/10):

Looked to get forward from left-back but most England attacks went down the opposite flank.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesMidfield

Angel Gomes (7/10):

Dictated the tempo as he showed off his fine passing ability as England's deepest-lying midfielder.

Curtis Jones (6/10):

Struggled to have too much of an impact as half of the double pivot as most England moves went through Gomes instead.

Noni Madueke (8/10):

England's outstanding player in the first half and a constant thorn in the Czech defence down the right. Better finishing would have seen him end the game with a couple of goals.

Morgan Gibbs-White (6/10):

Looked to be incisive with his passing from the No.10 position, but not as much came off as he would have liked.

Jacob Ramsey (7/10):

Quiet in the first half but came to life immediately after the break as his thrusting run and finish broke the deadlock.

Getty ImagesAttack

Anthony Gordon (6/10):

A more natural finisher might have grabbed a goal or two, but did some good things when drifting either wider or deeper, as illustrated by his neat assist for Ramsey's goal.

Getty ImagesSubs & Manager

Oliver Skipp (6/10):

Kept England ticking over for the final 15 minutes.

Cameron Archer (6/10):

Showed good awareness to lay on Smith Rowe's goal.

Emile Smith Rowe (6/10):

Saw little of the ball before tapping in the goal that sealed victory in stoppage time.

Harvey Elliott (N/A):

Only introduced for the final two minutes.

Ben Johnson (N/A):

On for Aarons at the death.

Lee Carsley (7/10):

Put some square pegs in round holes to mixed success, but overall display and result were good. May need to tighten up midfield when facing better opposition.
