Liverpool could sign their own Odegaard in ‘silky’ £22m ace

An update has emerged on Liverpool and their interest in Alberto Moleiro ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window…

What’s the latest on Alberto Moleiro to Liverpool?

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Reds are one of three teams in the race to sign the Spanish attacking midfielder from Las Palmas at the end of the season.

The report claims that fellow Premier League side Aston Villa and LaLiga giants Barcelona are also interested in snapping up the 19-year-old later this year.

It is stated that the Merseyside outfit, along with Unai Emery’s team, are prepared to pay Las Palmas’ €25m (£22m) asking price, although the gem’s release clause will rise to €60m (£53m) if they are promoted to the Spanish top-flight.

What is Alberto Moleiro’s style of play?

The 19-year-old Spaniard is a versatile attacking midfielder who excels at creating chances for his teammates. With that in mind, he could be Jurgen Klopp’s own version of Arsenal star Martin Odegaard.

Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League table and the Norway international has been a crucial cog in their well-oiled machine as a creative presence in the middle of the park.

He has averaged an impressive Sofascore rating of 7.40 – the second-best in their squad – across 25 appearances in the division – creating 12 ‘big chances’ and making 2.4 key passes per match.

The former Real Madrid playmaker has racked up 0.25 assists per 90 and Moleiro, who has managed 0.37 assists per 90 in the Spanish second division this term, could develop into a similarly creative threat in midfield.

Las Palmas, like Arsenal, currently lead their league and the teenage wizard has played a significant role in their success to date as the gem has created 11 ‘big chances’, 1.7 key passes per game, and eight assists in 23 starts in LaLiga 2.

Meanwhile, no Liverpool central midfielder has created more than 1.2 key passes per match or more than Harvey Elliott’s seven ‘big chances’ created.

These statistics show that the Spanish magician, whose touch was described as “silky” by scout Jacek Kulig, excels at creating opportunities for his teammates from an attacking midfield, eight, or wide position, much like Odegaard does for the Gunners week-in-week-out in the Premier League.

At the age of 19, Moleiro would not come in as a player who should be expected to make an immediate or significant impact on the team but the gem could be a long-term prospect with the potential to grow into Klopp’s own version of the Norweigan star.

He is yet to test himself outside of the second tier in Spain and it is impossible to tell how the creator would adapt to life in England. Still, his statistics this season indicate that there is a talented player there for Liverpool to develop in the coming years.

Meeting held: Man Utd make first move to sign Gregor Kobel

Manchester United have reportedly met with the agent of Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, according to reporter Patrick Berger.

The Lowdown: Kobel profiled

Kobel is 25 years of age and made the move to Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2021. Since then, the Switzerland international has made 65 appearances for Dortmund, keeping 23 clean sheets.

He is valued at a career-high €25m Transfermarkt valuation and is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2026. Kobel has also come in for praise from Dortmund goalkeeping coach Matthias Kleinsteiber, who said:

“I think the fans realised very quickly that he’s a really good goalkeeper. But he still has a lot of room for improvement, he can improve in all areas.”

“Gregor can handle the pressure, I’ve seen that with him. In Augsburg, he had real pressure on the kettle, as it was about staying in the Bundesliga, and also with Stuttgart as the next step, he didn’t have it easy.”

The Latest: United interest

Berger, chief reporter for German outlet Sport1, took to Twitter in the last 48 hours to provide an update on Kobel. He said that both the Red Devils and Premier League rivals Chelsea ‘have met with an agent of the Swiss goalkeeper’.

However, Berger added that Kobel ‘wants to stay at least one more year with BVB’ and that ‘the Bundesliga side has no intention to sell.’

The Verdict: Good to see

It is good to see that United are making moves ahead of the summer window, looking to build on the overall success during Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford.

A new striker and midfielder appear to be the main priority over the coming months, but a new goalkeeper could also be beneficial to rival David de Gea.

Dean Henderson is ‘unlikely to be welcomed back to Old Trafford when his loan at Nottingham Forest expires after criticising Ten Hag’, with Brentford’s David Raya another keeper linked with a move to Manchester.

Kobel could be a name to keep a close eye on following this update of a meeting held between United and the player’s agent, however, the club may find it tricky given his current stance.

As a result, the Red Devils may need to look elsewhere for another high-quality ‘keeper to challenge De Gea next season, potentially Raya who is waiting for a ‘big move’ in the summer.

Leeds would love to have their "magic" legend back

Leeds United find themselves once again entrenched in a desperate battle for survival, with Javi Gracia the new man at the helm expected to guide them to safety.

Jesse Marsch had managed it last season but was deemed too unreliable to repeat his feat, despite taking over from the revered Marcelo Bielsa who had also became untrusted.

The Whites clearly boast a hierarchy inundated with a lack of faith, and their overwhelming fear of the drop has manifested into panic purchases and backing the wrong managers.

However, what is particularly mind-boggling is their acceptance to go on without signing some valid competition for Junior Firpo at left-back, despite the fans and media almost pleading for it.

It was not even as if they were strapped for cash; the American shattered their transfer record on two separate occasions across his two windows in charge.

It was the undeniable priority and has instead left a liability as their sole option. If only they had some talent from the past to fill in, namely the great Ian Harte, who would displace the former Barcelona defender in an instant.

How good was Ian Harte?

One of the great offensive full-backs, arguably before it became commonplace, the now 45-year-old was a true journeyman, plying his trade all across the English football leagues as well as enjoying a stint in Spain too.

However, it was at Elland Road where he resided for most of his career, featuring 281 times. During that period, he would establish himself as a true creative threat, outlined in his 38 goals and 27 assists.

His stint in Yorkshire marked their high point since the turn of the century too, as he was part of David O'Leary's heroic squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals back in the early 2000s.

The resolute defender boasted a career that spanned decades, as even as recently as 2012 he was lauded by podcaster Nilesh Deshmukh for his "magic touch" over a set piece that he had not lost.

Meanwhile, although he has seen a slight upturn in form since Gracia's arrival, Firpo has struggled since his initial move under Bielsa, paling in comparison to the great Harte.

His debut campaign saw him handed a 6.60 average rating, which is hardly much improved going into this season. Growing ever so slightly to a 6.65, Pascal Struijk has often deputised in his role due to his defensive deficiencies, despite being a natural centre-back.

Lacking positional awareness at the best of times, were he to offer some firepower up front he could at least be noted as a useful asset. But with just five goal contributions in 43 appearances, the 26-year-old cannot even manage that.

To compare him to Harte would be an insult, which is why this legendary figure would be so integral were he to return in his prime to today's team. It could arguably complete them, offering the perfect foundation upon which to build into a team without a continued fear of relegation.

Key Figure To Remain At West Ham Despite Pressure

Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United plan to keep David Moyes for "at least" until the end of the season despite the club's poor performance this season.

What's the latest on David Moyes and West Ham?

The 59-year-old has hardly had the greatest of campaigns so far. Indeed, with just 12 Premier League games to play, they are stuck in the relegation zone, one point from safety.

And it feels as though certain sections of the fanbase have lost patience with Moyes. For instance, following a shocking 4-0 away thumping at Brighton – which meant the Irons were 11 away games without a win – the West Ham fans booed their own manager.

With not much left in the season, however, it seems as though the club's board will stick with Moyes, barring an absolute disaster, instead of looking to replace him soon.

Ex explained as much while talking on the most recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, and outlined how this also applies to contract and transfer decisions ahead of the summer.

He said: "In terms of everything else – contracts, transfers, manager – obviously none of this is decided until the end of the season.

"Of course, the manager situation could be decided before should we go on a terrible run or even worse than where we are now.

"But I think the plan is to keep him until at least the end of the season."

Why won't West Ham sack Moyes?

To be fair to the experienced manager, it's easy to see why the current board have shown patience and loyalty towards his cause over the course of this season.

After all, in the two campaigns prior, he led West Ham to sixth and seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League, giving the club European football at the London Stadium for the first time since 2016.

And the club are doing pretty well in the Europa Conference League right now, with the Hammers facing Gent in the quarter-final stage next month, having also made the semi-finals of the Europa League last term.

Even so, the plan to stick with Moyes will no doubt frustrate many supporters who have made their feelings known with the booing at games such as the aforementioned Brighton defeat.

If the 59-year-old is sacked, the likes of Rafael Benitez and Michael Carrick have been spoken about in the media as possible replacements. But it seems as though they will have to wait until the summer before coming under consideration.

Junior Firpo Wowed By £20k p/w Leeds Gem

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has admitted youngster Wilfried Gnonto has surprised him since joining the club back in the summer.

What did Firpo say about Gnonto?

The Italian made the move from FC Zurich in the summer and has made big strides early in his Leeds career which has seen him earn 16 appearances in the Premier League alone (via Transfermarkt).

However, his game time has been hindered slightly since the arrival of Javi Gracia who benched the 19-year-old for their recent games against Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.

But it seems this decision may not have pleased all inside the club with Firpo admitting how much the youngster has impressed since arriving at Thorp Arch.

Speaking on the club's official podcast, the left-back spoke about the 19-year-old's ability and maturity despite having played less than a whole season in the English top flight:

"I think nobody expected from Wilfried. Nobody expected that when he first came, nobody expected. He was just a shy guy, didn't talk too much. He was even a little bit shy on the pitch as well in the training sessions.

"But as soon as he went on the pitch, he was unbelievable from day one. Since day one, he's matured. It's not normal for 19 years old.

"It's not normal how he plays, the maturity that he has, everything, it's unbelievable, to be honest."

How good is Wilfried Gnonto?

Having been dropped to the bench by Gracia, the £20k-per-week Italian made an instant response by providing an assist in his last two games which included from the bench in the draw against the Seagulls.

And his ability at such a young age has been recognised by Roberto Mancini and the Italian national side who have shown a lot of trust in the 19-year-old.

Gnonto recently came off the bench in the game against England and then was rewarded with a start in their following game against Malta (via Transfermarkt).

Wilfried Gnonto and Jack Harrison celebrate Leeds united's victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux in the Premier League.

The issue for Leeds is they are now left sweating over the fitness of their winger who was withdrawn through injury in the early stages of that game.

Given Gracia has not been scared to bench Gnonto already, it will be interesting to see how the Whites would get on if the young Italian was to be sidelined through injury.

In just 168 minutes of action under the Spaniard in the league, Gnonto has offered an impressive return of two assists which is the same as what Brenden Aaronson has offered all season.

Journalist Beren Cross has said the youngster has "dazzled" at times this season and it is easy to see why when the 19-year-old is in the top 10th percentile for progressive caries across the top five European leagues (via FBref).

And it is apparent the players at Thorp Arch have recognised this as much as anyone, especially Firpo who is likely coming up against him in training.

Leeds Handed Opportunity To Sign "Absolute Top Talent"

Leeds United have been handed an opportunity to sign El Chadaille Bitshiabu this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain now keen to let him leave on loan, according to a recent report.

Will Leeds sign a new centre-back this summer?

Regardless of whether Javi Gracia stays on as Leeds manager beyond the end of the season, the club are likely to look at bringing in new options in defence, given that they have conceded 48 goals, the fourth-highest amount in the league.

Not only that, but there are a number of clubs eyeing defender Robin Koch, with Newcastle United joining RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur in the race, and he will undoubtedly need replacing, should he move on at the end of the season.

It was reported at the beginning of March that Leeds were following PSG defender Bitshiabu for a potential summer swoop, and they may now have an opportunity to bring him to Elland Road.

According to a report from Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness), PSG will be willing to let the 17-year-old leave in the summer, as they are keen on him gaining experience on a loan deal elsewhere.

The idea is to loan him out for one season, before bringing him back as part of the squad, and interested clubs are already said to have come forward.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds are interested in a loan move. However, his availability is a real boost for Gracia ahead of the summer window.

Should Leeds sign El Chadaille Bitshiabu?

Football scout Jacek Kulig has indicated the starlet could go on to do great things, hailing him as an "absolute top talent" and "one of the most exciting prospects in France".

One concern for the Whites may be the youngster's age, given that he does not turn 18 until May. However, he has already started to force his way into the PSG starting XI, making eight Ligue 1 appearances this season, starting the last two games.

Paris St Germain's El Chadaille Bitshiabu.

The only real negative about the deal is that PSG are unwilling to part with the 6 foot 5 colossus on a permanent basis, but given the vast potential he possesses, it is no surprise they view him as a future first-team player.

Moving to Leeds could be a great platform for Bitshiabu to develop his game, and centre-back is undoubtedly an area the Whites will need to strengthen at the end of the season.

Graham Potter Eyeing Up Southampton Job This Summer

Former Chelsea and Brighton Graham Potter is interested in becoming Southampton's next permanent boss, according to a new update.

What happened to Potter at Chelsea?

The 47-year-old made a name for himself with the Seagulls, making them an established Premier League team who played good football at the same time. His expertise in the job earned him a move to Chelsea after the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, but things didn't go to plan at Stamford Bridge.

Potter struggled to get both positive performances and results out of his players, and it eventually cost him his job, with the Blues moving him on last month with them languishing in mid-table. Since then, the Englishman has continued to be linked with new managers posts, including Leicester.

Southampton manager Ruben Selles is in caretaker charge until the end of the season, although he is expected to move on once the summer arrives. Saints are currently battling for their lives in the Premier League relegation battle, propping up the rest of the table after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at home to Manchester City.

With the club potentially longer at future managers to come in permanently, Potter appears to be in the mix.

Graham Potter watches on as his Chelsea side taste defeat against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Could Potter take charge of Southampton?

According to Football Insider, the former Chelsea boss "has set his sights on becoming the next manager of Southampton", assuming they remain in the Premier League, which is certainly questionable at the moment. He is described as a "firm target" for Saints, although Leicester's interest is again mentioned, following Brendan Rodgers' sacking.

Potter feels that Southampton "would be a better fit for him", however, seemingly putting them in pole position to acquire his signature, assuming a return to the Championship is avoided.

While things clearly didn't go to plan for Potter at Chelsea, he remains a talented young manager who could be an inspired choice for Saints. The Blues job is notoriously a poisoned chalice and he should be judged more for his performance with Brighton, where he guided them to ninth place in the league last season.

His tactical acumen and playing style could appeal to Southampton, in terms of entertainment value, and St Mary's could ultimately be the ideal place for him to rebuild his managerial career. Whether or not the move is even able to come to fruition is dependent on these next six weeks or so, though, with results simply having to improve in order to avoid the drop.

Sky Sports Reporter Makes Man United Injury Claim

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho may not play again this season.

What’s the latest news on Garnacho’s injury?

Garnacho suffered an ankle injury against Southampton in the Premier League last month and hasn’t been seen for the Red Devils since. The 18-year-old has made 29 senior appearances under Erik ten Hag during the current campaign, contributing to nine goals in all competitions.

Ten Hag admitted earlier this month that he was optimistic the Argentine would return before the end of the season, and the Red Devils have had no further luck with injuries in recent days.

It was confirmed that fellow Argentine Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot against Sevilla, and Sheth thinks it could well be the same for Garnacho.

Sheth was talking to GiveMeSport regarding Garnacho in a story shared on Friday evening. The reporter described the attacker’s serious injury as a blow and suggested that he may not feature again this season.

"The injury that he's had, Ten Hag says it's probably a bit more serious than they first thought. So that will be a blow to United in the run-in. I don't know how much, if any, of that run-in Garnacho will be involved in.

"It's clear that Ten Hag sees him as part of his future, so it will be someone they want to keep hold of in regards to Garnacho."

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.

It isn’t just Garnacho and Martinez either…

United are heading into the final months of the season still looking to win the Europa League and the FA Cup to add to the Carabao Cup triumph earlier in the season. A Premier League top-four finish is also on the agenda, so being without a number of players isn’t ideal for Ten Hag.

Alongside Martinez and Garnacho, United also have Raphael Varane, Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Tom Heaton and Donny van de Beek on the treatment table.

Ten Hag’s options may therefore be limited for the trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday and the return leg against Sevilla next week, and the club also have an FA Cup semi-final with Brighton scheduled for next weekend as well.
