Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou could never use an "excellent" Spurs player again after a training incident this week.

The Lilywhites are now gearing up for a crunch Premier League battle with north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Postecolgou's side enter the contest on a serious hot streak of form; having reigned victorious in four out of their last four top flight matches with wins over Bournemouth, Man United, Burnley and Sheffield United. Only Brighton and Man City have scored more top flight goals than Spurs have so far this campaign; with supporters watching a completely new-look Tottenham side take the league by storm.

Tottenham are yet to lose a single match and there is seemingly no better time to be heading into one of their biggest games of the season. Postecoglou, speaking to the media after his side's dramatic win over Sheffield United last weekend, urged fans not to temper their expectations and to simply enjoy the ride.

"No, no, no, let them go, let them go and enjoy it," said Postecoglou after their victory over the Blades. My role is not to burst people's bubbles. Let them get excited, let them get ahead of themselves. That's the beauty of being a supporter.

"They go through enough pain mate, you want to let them enjoy it. If they think we're going to be world beaters then great, that's up to us to match that expectation. Our supporters deserve to have some happiness and enjoy it any way they want to."

Mikel Arteta's side are on a similar run of form but have had to dig deep for a lot of their results, especially their wins over Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Everton.

Spurs will be without the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil, who are all sidelined after various surgeries on long term injuries.

Young goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman is in the same boat, but perhaps the biggest loss is versatile winger Ivan Perisic, who suffered a complex ACL injury in training this week and is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Following the incident, journalist Dan Kilpatrick has suggested Postecoglou could never use the Croatian again, and he may well have played his last game for the club. Perisic's contract expires next summer, and if he isn't back in time, their clash against Sheffield United last Saturday could've been his final hurrah.

"What a blow for Perisic," wrote Kilpatrick on X in response to the news. "Might have played his last game in a Spurs shirt (contract is up next summer). He was excellent off the bench on Saturday, making both goals."

How good is Ivan Perisic?

Registering more assists than any other Spurs player last season, Perisic was a real asset for Postecoglou and the manager will be hoping he can fight his way back in time to play a role.

Antonio Conte, speaking last season, was effusive in his praise for the former Inter Milan and Wolfsburg star.

"It is very important we sign a player like Ivan Perisic because he can see the way to try to learn something from Ivan," said Conte on Sessegnon and Perisic last summer. We are talking about a real important player and top player. Sometimes it is good to bring a player in your team who is a bit over age but at the same time a good player with experience who can improve a young player in your squad.”

Even though Arsenal are blessed with an abundance of talented players, it’s not hard to pinpoint their most important: Bukayo Saka.

The Hale End icon has become a talisman for the club and a constant source of goals and assists from the right-hand side, racking up a sensational haul of 26 goal involvements in 37 games this season.

Yet, as unbelievably talented as the Englishman is, he cannot drag the Gunners to glory on his own, as even Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has an incredible supporting cast, including the likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and most crucially, this season, Cody Gakpo.

So, fans should be excited about recent reports linking Arsenal to an attacker who’s been compared to Saka and the Flying Dutchman.

With their attack letting them down on several occasions this season, it’s not been a surprise to see Arsenal linked with a host of talented wingers this summer, such as Karou Mitoma and Rodrygo.

The former could be available for around £80m and was able to rack up a tally of 15 goal involvements in 41 games this season, while the latter might cost as much as £77m but was even more effective, racking up a haul of 14 goals and 11 assists in 52 games.

Yet, there is another name that has entered the frame, a player who has Premier League experience and has been compared to Saka and Gakpo: Noni Madueke.

According to a recent report from the Telegraph, Arsenal are now one of several teams in the picture to sign the former Spurs academy star and Chelsea forward this summer.

The report claims that while the Blues do not want to sell the Englishman, there is a distinct possibility that he would be let go for the right price.

While that price is not mentioned in the story, reports from earlier this month claimed that a fee in the region of €60m, which is about £51m, could do the trick.

It might not be a transfer that is immediately popular with Arsenal fans, but Madueke has shown glimpses of quality in the Premier League, and the fact he’s been compared to Saka and Gakpo is undoubtedly intriguing.

So then, before going over some of the other reasons why Arsenal might want to sign Madueke this summer, it’s important to examine these comparisons and where they stem from.

Well, they both stem from FBref, which looks at players in similar positions in the Premier League this season before making a list of the ten most comparable for each.

According to this list, Gakpo was the seventh most similar attacking midfielder or winger to Chelsea this season, while Saka was the tenth most similar.

Now, the best way to understand how these conclusions were reached is by looking at some of the underlying numbers in which the players rank closely, and in the case of the Gunners’ talisman, that includes things like non-penalty expected goals plus assist, passing accuracy, passes into the final third, clearances, tackles won and more, all per 90.

In the case of the Eindhoven-born maestro, similar metrics include expected assists, live passes, carries, ball recoveries, goal-creating actions, and more, all per 90.

However, it’s not just the comparisons to two of the best wingers in the league that should excite fans, as the “unbelievable” dynamo, as dubbed by former manager Mauricio Pochettino, has also been a relatively reliable source of goals and assists for the West Londoners.

For example, in 42 appearances this season, totalling 2513 minutes, the 23-year-old “mentality monster,” as dubbed by personal coach Saul Isaksson-Hurst, scored 11 goals and provided five assists, which comes out to a goal involvement on average every 2.62 games, or every 157.06 minutes.

In comparison, Gabriel Martinelli racked up as many goal involvements in 51 appearances, totalling 3564 minutes, which comes out to a significantly worse average of a goal involvement every 3.18 games, or every 222.75 minutes.

Ultimately, while the price might be a little high, Madueke has the raw ability to make a difference for Arsenal, and the fact he’s been compared to players like Saka and Gakpo this season suggests as much.

Therefore, if the fee can be reduced somewhat, then this looks like a transfer worth chasing.

The ECB has bowed to increasing pressure and agreed to an external review of the process leading to the payment of £2.5m to Glamorgan. Barely 48 hours after dismissing calls for such an inquiry at a meeting of the county chairmen, the ECB has performed a U-turn which suggests chaos at the heart of the organisation.While an ECB press release suggests the U-turn is the result of “time to reflect” on the request formally made by Somerset and Surrey on Monday, it may not be coincidental that the ECB’s Audit, Risk and Governance committee met on Wednesday in order to sign off the accounts. With such a substantial and extraordinary payment having been made to Glamorgan – and the suggestion that further payments have been promised elsewhere – it is entirely possible the committee required more details before the accounts could be signed off.”Following the ECB’s meeting with the chairmen of the first-class counties and MCC on Monday we have taken time to reflect on this, as a Board,” Colin Graves, the ECB chairman, said in a statement. “The Board agree that it will be valuable to have an external review into the process around the payment.”I recognise there have been questions raised and, whilst answers have been provided, we are determined that the process is fully reviewed.”It was revealed several weeks ago by the that Glamorgan had received the payment in return for not applying to host a Test in the major match allocation that runs until the end of the 2024 season. While the ECB executive insists such payments were agreed, in principle, at a board teleconference in September 2016, the likes of Andy Nash and Richard Thompson, who have resigned from the board in recent days in protest at what they see as a lack of transparency behind such decisions, believe they required more detailed consideration. Both men claim such a payment amounts to favouring one county over others and conflict with the ECB’s constitution.The ECB has not yet published the terms of reference for the review. But while it is understood the county chairmen requested an entirely independent inquiry led by a respected QC, the ECB has appointed Good Governance Institute (GGI) and asked them to look only at “the process leading to the recent payment to Glamorgan”. As GGI were employed by the ECB in a consultancy capacity as recently as the end of last year – they compiled a report entitled “Governance Improvement Programme” – one county has already raised questions over their independence and, as a result, their suitability for the task.There is also concern over the breadth of the review. With several Test-hosting grounds believed to have budgeted for similar compensation payments – the suggested figure was £500,000 for every year they do not host a Test – some of the other counties want to know how they were led to believe such payments were likely. The ECB has agreed to take another look at the policy, but it is currently unclear whether it forms part of the GGI review.”We need to know what other payments have been promised over the last few months,” one county chief executive told ESPNcricinfo. “But this review does represent encouraging progress.”

Two of those three players are in the table above as some of the most valuable players to come through the youth set-up but Farke may wish that he had another one of the gems on that list – Jack Clarke.

The ex-Leeds talent would have been a dream for the German head coach and a better option than Wilfried Gnonto as he has gone on to prove himself to be an exceptional talent at this level.

How much did Leeds sell Jack Clarke for?

Former Whites sporting director Victor Orta, unfortunately, cashed in on the young gem in the summer of 2019 as Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur swooped in to sign him for an initial fee of £8.5m.

That move came after the teenage winger had scored two goals and provided two assists in 22 Championship matches for Marcelo Bielsa throughout the 2018/19 campaign, which was his breakthrough year at senior level.

However, the English forward failed to make an impact in north London as he only made four first-team appearances for Spurs before his move to Sunderland, initially on loan, in January 2022.

How many goals has Clarke scored for Sunderland?

Clarke has racked up 17 goals in 79 senior matches for the Black Cats in all competitions over the last 18 months or so, and has established himself as a start for Tony Mowbray's side.

He played a role in their promotion to the Championship during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign as the exciting winger scored one goal and provided three assists in 20 League One outings during his loan spell from Tottenham.

Sunderland then opted to sign him on a permanent basis from the Premier League club in the summer of 2022 and he has gone on to prove himself at Championship level with some outstanding performances.

The Black Cats made the play-offs during the 2022/23 season and Clarke played a significant part in their success as he delivered goals and assists from out wide.

He produced nine goals and 12 assists across 47 appearances for the club on the left flank, which showcased his ability to make a big impact in the final third on a regular basis.

Only Ross Stewart (ten) and Amad Diallo (14) scored more goals for Sunderland than Clarke, and no other player for his side managed more than seven assists. This shows that he was the outstanding creative threat for Mowbray last term and one of the manager's most lethal scorers.

This indicates that Leeds' team would have improved considerably at the top end of the pitch if they had Clarke available for selection instead of the Italian teen.

Therefore, the current Sunderland star would have been a dream for Farke with his dynamic and lethal attacking displays down the left flank, as he has proven himself to be an upgrade on Gnonto.

Orta raked in a significant fee for the teenager in 2019, of £8.5m, but it is a shame that the Whites were never able to see the best of his abilities at Elland Road, as he has gone on to be a star on Wearside.
