Enquanto alguns buscavam apartar a briga, outros ainda tiravam satisfação.

No histórico do confronto, o técnico do Fluminense leva a melhor.

Sam Hain scores yet more runs that don't get you noticed

Prolific Championship run-getter unlikely to find a way into Ashes shake-up

Sam Hain passed fifty for the third time in five innings this season as Warwickshire continued to dominate Hampshire in the LV= Insurance County Championship.Hain began the season with centuries against Kent and Somerset and returned to form after a quiet match against Surrey with a faultless 85.Hong Kong-born, Australian-raised Hain captained England Lions in Sri Lanka during the winter, but a hamstring injury scuppered his chance to train with the Test squad in the UAE before the tour to Pakistan. He instead busied himself at the Big Bash.A call-up for the Ashes is unlikely, despite his form, with just Josh Bohannon ahead of him in the Division One scoring charts this season. He has 382 runs at an average of 95.5.Hampshire had found hope with three wickets in a truncated morning session to fashion a collapse from 83 without loss to 95 for 3, but half-centuries for Alex Davies, Ed Barnard, and Michael Burgess accompanied Hain. Barnard, in particular, ground the hosts down to end the day on a stylish unbeaten 91.Warwickshire on 364 for five, hold a lead of 135 – although forecast rain on Saturday may thwart their chances of a victory that, if gained, would represent a significant recovery after their defeat against Surrey at Edgbaston last week.Hain’s stock has been rising for several years, having burst onto the scene with a double-century in his debut season in 2015 – where he averaged over 50. He was the third-leading run-scorer in Division One last year, with 1137, and since the start of the 2019 no one has scored more runs in the Championship (and Bob Willis Trophy) than Hain.Against Hampshire’s Keith Barker-less attack, he found a perfect adagio tempo where he carefully went about his work, having arrived at the crease in the middle of a top-order hiccup.Rob Yates and Alex Davies had negotiated the evening session of the first day flawlessly to compile 82 runs but were separated within three legal deliveries of the morning when Yates lobbed a caught and bowled back at Kyle Abbott. Davies reached his 44th first-class fifty with a slap through the covers, but perished three balls later when Mohammad Abbas nipped one back into his pads.Only seven overs were possible before lunch but Will Rhodes becoming the third victim – leg before to Abbott.Hain settled things after lunch. For large periods you wouldn’t notice him, and then he’d force your attention with an impeccably timed shot. His cover drive to take him to a 110-ball fifty was the undoubted highlight.Mousley stuck with him for just over an hour and a half in a 69-run stand before he was lbw, swinging across the line to Ian Holland.Holland also produced a rare misjudgement from Hain to be caught behind – a decision which appeared to disappoint the batter.Barnard had put on 86 with Hain, as Warwickshire strode into a first-innings lead and to a batting point, and reached his maiden half-century for the county after his winter move from Worcestershire.

Zaka Ashraf not happy with hybrid Asia Cup model but will 'honour the commitment'

“Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan”

Zaka Ashraf, who is likely to become the next PCB chairman, is not happy with the hybrid host model for the upcoming Asia Cup but he “will not block” the decision taken by his predecessor Najam Sethi.During a media interaction on Wednesday, Ashraf had said that he “rejected” the hybrid model, sparking discussion about whether negotiations around the specifics of the Asia Cup would have to resume. But later he told ESPNcricinfo that “the decision has been made, so we have to go with it””In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn’t beneficial for Pakistan and I didn’t like it,” Ashraf said. “Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka taking the bigger lot of games, leaving Pakistan with only four games, isn’t in the best interest of our country.Related

“But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention not to comply with the decision. I cannot do much about it but to honour the commitment. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country.”The 2023 Men’s Asia Cup was originally meant to be held entirely in Pakistan but after the BCCI said India would not travel there, Sethi proposed the hybrid model, which was then approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The model sees four, possibly five, of the tournament’s 13 games being played in Pakistan. The rest will be played in Sri Lanka including all the India-Pakistan games and the final if India qualify.Apart from Sri Lanka, the UAE was in the running as a neutral venue but Bangladesh raised concerns over the extreme weather there in September. After weeks of extensive discussions, the ACC accepted the PCB’s proposal of the tournament being played in two countries. While Ashraf made these comments in a personal capacity, he is expected to replace Sethi as the new PCB chair after he and Supreme Court lawyer Mustafa Ramday were nominated by the country’s prime minister to join the PCB’s board of governors. Sethi was heading the interim management committee that ran the PCB until Tuesday, when he withdrew from the running to become the board chairman.

Deepti's hat-trick and half-century give Warriorz thrilling win

Capitals were on track in the chase before losing their last seven wickets for 25 runs in 18 balls to hand Warriorz a win

Ashish Pant08-Mar-2024

Deepti Sharma celebrates her hat-trick•BCCI

It was all going to plan for Delhi Capitals. Chasing 139 for a win, they were placed comfortably at 124 for 4 in 18 overs, needing 15 off 12. Meg Lanning had led the chase with her third consecutive fifty. Two experienced internationals in Annabel Sutherland and Jess Jonassen were at the crease. A top-three spot was in Capitals’ sights.Enter Deepti Sharma. In what was a collapse of epic proportions, Capitals went from 124 for 4 to 137 all out in 12 balls to hand UP Warriorz a scarcely believable come-from-behind one-run win.Ecclestone and Navgire fined

UP Warriorz’s batter Kiran Navgire and left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone have been fined 10% of their match fees for breaking the WPL code of conduct during the match against Delhi Capitals. The duo admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 which relates to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.” For Level 1 breaches of the code of conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.

The wrecker-in-chief was Deepti, who picked up a split hat-trick. She removed Lanning on the final ball of the 14th over and then snapped up Sutherland and Arundhati Reddy off the first two balls of the 19th before also accounting for Shikha Pandey in the three-wicket over. That left Capitals with ten to win in the final over.Poonam Khemnar dropped Radha Yadav off the first ball of the 20th bowled by Grace Harris, also tipping the ball over the ropes in the process. A high full toss was then heaved to deep square-leg by Radha. With two needed off four, the odds were still with Capitals but three wickets in the next three balls changed everything.Warriorz’s middle order goes bust… againAll four matches in the Delhi leg have been won by teams batting first, so Warriorz had no hesitation going down that route after winning the toss. But things didn’t go to plan. Kiran Navgire got a streaky four away first ball of Sadhu’s first over, but was cleaned up the very next ball going for an adventurous hoick only to see her stumps rattled.Deepti, batting at No. 3 for the first time in the WPL, got into her stride from the get-go. She added a 46-run stand with Alyssa Healy, injecting momentum into the innings as Warriorz reached 44 for 1 at the end of the powerplay. But Alice Capsey sent Healy packing, also initiating an all-too-familiar Warriorz middle-order collapse.Tahlia McGrath, back in the side replacing Chamari Athapaththu, was cleaned up by a Reddy pearler. Harris struck a six in her 12-ball 14 but fell to a top-edge off Radha. Sadhu, Radha and Jonassen then struck as Warriorz slipped from 95 for 3 to 116 for 7 in the space of 19 balls. They managed to reach 138 thanks to Deepti’s late striking.Deepti the hero with the batDeepti came into the game on the back of an unbeaten 36-ball 53 against Mumbai Indians and she built on her excellent form. She got going with a delicate dab past the keeper for four before butchering Sadhu over mid-on. Deepti did slow down a touch after that, but three fours in the space of six balls against Sutherland and Jonassen got her strike rate somewhat back on track. She reached her second successive half-century in the final over off 45 balls.Lanning seals the deal… almostLanning, after her match-winning fifty against Gujarat Giants earlier in the tournament, had talked about how she is now “just enjoying playing cricket” after announcing her international retirement. On Friday, she carried on in the same vein smashing 60 off 46 balls, her innings laced with 12 fours. The Warriorz bowlers were also quite liberal as they often went short and Lanning was in no mood to let them go unpunished.Meg Lanning nails a pull shot•BCCI

She got going with a powerful hack through deep-backward square leg, an area she peppered consistently. Lanning then struck Saima Thakor for three back-to-back fours while going after each of Gouher Sultana, Deepti and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Three successive fours off Sultana then helped Lanning race to her fifty off 38 balls as Capitals moved to 91 for 2 after 13, requiring 48 to win off 42 balls.Deepti the hero with the ballIt needed a special effort to stop the rampaging Capitals from delivering another win, and Deepti put her hand up. She went for 12 off her first two overs with Lanning taking her for two fours. But it was her third over which brought Warriorz back. Having conceded just three runs off her first five balls, she got one to spear in on Lanning’s middle stump. Lanning went for the sweep, missed, and was trapped right in front. The match was still in Capitals’ grasp when Deepti came on to bowl the 19th over. She got Sutherland first ball with a length ball that clattered into middle stump. The very next ball, she went slower and Reddy couldn’t resist going across the line. She failed to get a clean connection and Harris completed a simple catch. With that wicket, Deepti claimed just the second hat-trick in WPL history. Pandey came in and whacked Deepti over her head but the bowler kept her cool and took her down next ball with a sharp caught-and-bowled, conceding only five off the penultimate over. Having done her bit with the bat earlier, Deepti more than did her bit with the ball finishing with excellent figures of 4 for 19.

Overton signals return from back surgery as Somerset bowl Notts out swiftly

His 3 for 57 helps hosts to maximum bowling points before Sean Dickson 70* puts pitch in perspective

ECB Reporters Network19-Apr-2024

Craig Overton took three valuable wickets•Getty Images

Craig Overton signalled his return to form and fitness following winter back surgery as Somerset bowled out Nottinghamshire for 193 on the opening day of the Vitality County Championship First Division clash at Taunton. The England allrounder claimed 3 for 57 from 18 impressive overs to help the hosts to maximum bowling points after losing the toss. Only Matt Montgomery (48) and Joe Clarke (39) could offer significant resistance on a bright, blustery day. There were two wickets each for Lewis Gregory and Migael Pretorius. By the close, Somerset had replied with 116 for 1, Sean Dickson (70 not out) and Matt Renshaw (34) having produced an opening stand of 111.The match began with a brief and somewhat strange innings from Haseeb Hameed, who aimed an extravagant cover drive at the first ball, a wide one from Overton, without making contact, left the second and then dragged the third delivery onto his stumps with a repeat of his first shot.Ben Slater and Will Young were more circumspect in taking the total 49, although Overton deserved better than 1 for 13 from his opening spell, going past the outside edge on numerous occasions.Gregory has enjoyed an excellent start to the season after being appointed Somerset’s red-ball captain and he struck twice in the morning session just when the two Notts players were starting to look set.Slater, on 25, nibbled at a seaming delivery on off stump to edge through to wicketkeeper James Rew, while Young was pinned lbw on the back foot for 27 with the total on 52.Clarke and Montgomery saw Notts through to lunch, taking the score to 72 for 3 on a pitch offering true bounce and some seam movement, which looked as if it would aid good batting and bowling. It was the latter, backed up by excellent fielding, which held sway in the afternoon session. But first Clarke and Montgomery batted confidently, taking their fourth-wicket stand to 66 in 21 overs before Clarke got a leading edge to a leg-side delivery from England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir and was caught at mid-wicket. It proved a turning point as wickets fell steadily from then on.With the total on 139, Jack Haynes was caught behind pushing forward to Josh Davey and departed for 5. Fourteen runs were added before Montgomery, who had faced 84 balls and hit 6 fours, fell to a catch at second slip off Overton, who was again bowling well having switched to the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End.Two balls later the tall seamer, who missed Somerset’s opening Championship game to complete rehab after surgery and looked somewhat rusty in the second at The Oval, struck again as Calvin Harrison edged to Gregory at first slip.Suddenly Notts were 153 for seven and in a deep hole. Although Lyndon James and Brett Hutton added 30, there was no to be no major recovery.James fell for 18, lbw to a full-length delivery from South African seamer Pretorius, for whom it was a first wicket at Taunton since signing for Somerset. Hutton had moved to 20 when sent back seeking to push a single into the off-side and being run out by a brilliant direct hit by Lewis Goldsworthy running round from point.Pretorius picked up a second wicket when Luke Fletcher nicked a catch to Rew and Notts had been bowled out inside 63 overs. Tea was taken before Somerset’s reply began in bright sunshine.Soon Renshaw and Dickson were putting the pitch in perspective, compiling a century opening stand in 28.2 overs with barely a false shot, despite some probing bowling from Fletcher, who conceded only 11 runs from his first nine overs, bowled in two spells, one from either end.Dickson led the way with some sweetly-timed shots, including two swashbuckling strokes through point off James to bring up the fifty partnership. A single off leg-spinner Harrison took him to his first Championship half-century at the Cooper Associates County Ground, off 68 balls, with nine fours.Left-hander Renshaw was content to play a supporting role, but also looked in fine touch until edging a Harrison delivery that held its line to slip the ball after lofting him for a straight six.

Aston Villa in contact to sign "magnificent" ace who dominated England U21s

Already thinking ahead about potential summer reinforcements, Aston Villa have now reportedly made contact over a deal to sign a £25m sensation who recently dominated England’s U21 side.

Aston Villa join race to sign France U21 star

Whilst it has seemed as though they’ve endured a season full of inconsistency at times, Aston Villa find themselves in an FA Cup semi-final, a Champions League quarter-final and in with every chance of qualifying for Europe’s top competition for a second season running in the Premier League. And that qualification would undoubtedly play a large part in their pursuit of summer targets.

Monchi now wants Aston Villa to sign £83k-p/w Real Madrid ace this summer

Aston Villa are the latest team to join the race…

ByBrett Worthington Mar 31, 2025

On that front, a number of potential reinforcements have already emerged, including the likes of Arda Guler. The Real Madrid youngster has struggled for game time in Spain in the face of such talented competition and has now reportedly attracted the attention of Villa sporting director Monchi.

The Turkish international would certainly be quite the coup. Although he has struggled to steal the headlines at Madrid, Guler could become an instant star in the Midlands just as Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford have fresh from their own struggles.

He’s not the only young star that the Villans have set their sights on, however. According to The Boot Room, Aston Villa have now made contact to sign Rayan Cherki, asking Lyon to be kept informed about the winger’s transfer status in the coming months.

Available for just £25m this summer, Cherki is likely to be one of the bargains of the window and has already attracted a list of interested parties as a result. Joining Villa in the race for his signature is reportedly Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in what should prove to be a hectic battle to welcome one of Europe’s rising stars when the summer arrives.

"Magnificent" Cherki is a rising star

The interest in Cherki from the Premier League should come as little surprise after he put on the show of all shows against England U21s during the international break, scoring once and assisting twice in a 5-3 victory for France. It was an evening stroll for a player whose quality belongs and is destined for the highest level.

It’s not the first time that the 21-year-old has impressed this season either, having scored eight goals and assisted an eye-watering 18 in all competitions for Lyon to earn the praise of Jacek Kulig. The scout/analyst described Cherki’s campaign as “magnificent” at the beginning of March and has seen him get better and better ever since.

As the race for his signature heats up, Cherki looks destined to have a decision to make which could yet end in a summer switch to Villa Park.
