Gloucestershire claimed two more wickets when Smith took a return catch to dismiss Crook for a hard-hitting 36 and bowled Ben Duckett for one. However, Northants’ victory was never seriously in doubt and Willey, with an unbeaten 26, and Middlebrook duly completed the success.Gloucestershire captain Klinger felt his side were 30 runs shy of a defendable total. “Northants had the better of the first 10 overs in each innings and that made a difference,” he said. “Rossington and Levi gave them momentum when they batted, and we needed one of the top three to do the same and it didn’t quite happen for us.”I thought 270 would have been a par score, and if we had got to 280 or 290 then that would have put them under real pressure.”Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley agreed with Klinger’s verdict, saying: “The ball held up a little bit at times, but it’s a fast-scoring ground and we were pleased to keep Gloucestershire to 240. O técnico colocou o cargo à disposição depois da derrota para o Palmeiras, por2 a 0, na nona rodada, última antes da pausa para a Copa América.

Em Alagoas, Marcelo Cabo perdeu o emprego no CSA, depois de uma derrota para o Sport, em amistoso disputado durante a pausa da Copa América. A diretoria do Azulão decidiu encerrar o trabalho do técnico antes do retorno do Brasileirão, pela ausência de bons resultados no torneio.

Para o lugar de Cabo, o clube acertou com Argel Fucks, que estreou com derrota por 1 a 0 para o Corinthians, fora de casa e na rodada seguinte foi goleado por 4 a 0, pelo Athletico-PR, no Rei Pelé.

Chapecoense demite Ney Franco após a 11ª rodada

Ney Franco não resistiu a goleada sofrida contra o São Paulo, por 4 a 0, na 11ª rodada do Brasileirão e foi demitido pela Chapecoense. O treinador sofria com as críticas constantes das arquibancadas e teve um aproveitamento modesto de apenas35,19%. A Chape fezo pior início no torneio desde o acesso à Série A, em 2014, e está na zona de rebaixamento.

Vasco – Luxa estreia na quinta rodada

Depois de demitir Alberto Valentim na sequência da perda do título carioca para o Flamengo, o Vasco ficou sob o comando do treinador interino Marcos Valadares até a quinta rodada do Brasileirão. Vanderlei Luxemburgo, o novo comandante cruz-maltino, estreou com um empate com sabor de derrota com o Avaí em São Januário, com um gol sofrido nos acréscimos, após sair na frente. Após a parada para a Copa América, Luxa tem tido um bom desempenho à frente da equipe e conseguiu deixar o incômodo Z-4.

The South Africa batsman had quit Tests late last year and decided to call time on his limited-overs career after the recent poor one-day tour of Sri Lanka.Kallis will, however, continue to play T20 franchise cricket for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and for Sydney Thunder in the BBL. He ends his ODI career with 11579 runs in 328 matches with 17 centuries and 86 fifties at an average of 44.36. He played 25 T20s, scoring 666 runs with five fifties. He is the only South African batsman with over 10,000 runs in Tests and ODIs. Kallis had played his final Test in December 2013 against India in Durban, finishing with 13,289 runs in 166 matches with 45 centuries, 58 fifties at an average of 55.37. His last T20 was in October 2012.Kallis, 38, had plans of playing the 2015 World Cup and was part of South Africa’s ODI plans in the build-up. However, he managed scores of just 0,1 and 4 in the three ODIs in Sri Lanka recently.”I realised in Sri Lanka that my dream of playing in a World Cup was a bridge too far,” Kallis said in a statement. “Ï just knew on that tour that I was done. ‘We will be having our strongest team’ – Domingo

South Africa are virtually assured of a place in the final of the Zimbabwean tri-series on Saturday, but their coach Russell Domingo suggested that there is unlikely to be any experimentation in the South African line-up in their final group game against Zimbabwe.”It’s an important game, and a couple of the guys have been rested like Dale [Steyn] and Morne [Morkel], who have only played two games in the last three or four weeks, so I don’t think it’s that important for them to rest,” Domingo said. “And I think they will be having a couple of weeks off after this tournament. AB [de Villiers] also had one or two games off, so I think we’ll be pretty much as close to our strongest team tomorrow.”The hosts have just four points to South Africa’s nine, and with a net run rate of -1.665 Zimbabwe would need an improbably large victory on Thursday to even come close to threatening South Africa’s standing on the points table. Of far more concern to South Africa will be their death bowling and their lengthy tail, which will include both Aaron Phangiso and Imran Tahir, with Morkel promoted to No. 9.Both of these factors were exposed in their 62-run defeat to Australia on Tuesday. “We didn’t play as well as we would have hoped to [against Australia],” admitted Domingo. “With the ball at the back end I didn’t think we executed our plans well enough, and then I think our team at the moment with a little bit of a long tail is set up to have wickets in hand. With 15 overs left we were five or six wickets down, which is too many wickets down. Those are the areas that we really got wrong.”Mitchell Marsh played an outstanding innings yesterday. With the way batting is going at the moment, I think wickets up front is the most important thing, that you can limit the damage at the back end of the innings.”Conditions in Zimbabwe, with pitches generally playing slow and low and aiding spinners, have necessitated South Africa’s inclusion of both Phangiso and Tahir. With both men likely to play in the final, there will be added pressure on South Africa’s middle order to provide the ballast to their innings, whether early wickets fall or not. While Faf du Plessis has scored two centuries in the tri-series, neither Hashim Amla nor Quinton de Kock have really fired and JP Duminy is averaging 25.50 while David Miller has scraped together just three runs in two innings.”Going to the World Cup in Australia it’s probably not going to be such a big thing, playing two spinners, but under these conditions two spinners seems to be a good option,” suggested Domingo. “It does lengthen our tail quite a bit but that just gives our top order a bit more responsibility to perform.”
