Reports indicate that his position was already tenuous even before the Sassuolo defeat, with internal discussions intensifying due to a perceived "lack of chemistry between the fans and Juric himself."

This lack of connection with the fanbase, coupled with disagreements with the ownership, has created an untenable situation for the Croatian coach. Juric's dismal record in Serie A and Champions League

Juric's statistical record at Atalanta paints a grim picture. In 11 Serie A matches this season, Atalanta have collected a mere 13 points, resulting from just two wins and seven draws. This is a stark contrast to last season, where they had 22 points and were in third place after 11 rounds. The team has scored only 13 goals in the league, while conceding 11.

Their last league victory dates back to September 21, a 3-1 win against Torino. Since then, they have picked up only five points and scoring just four goals in their last seven Serie A matches, including consecutive defeats away to Udinese and at home to Sassuolo.

While their Champions League campaign has yielded a more respectable seven points from four games, including a positive performance against Marseille, it has not been enough to secure the trust of the club hierarchy. Atalanta currently sit in 13th place in Serie A, significantly underperforming expectations for a team that has consistently challenged for European spots in recent seasons. Their form in their last five league matches includes three draws and two losses.

Back in the summer of 2024, very few Tottenham Hotspur supporters would have predicted the rise Djed Spence would endure in North London over the last 12 months.

He was signed by Antonio Conte in the summer of 2022, but it was a deal the Italian didn’t want – subsequently excluding him from his plans, restricting the right-back to just six first-team outings.

He was sent on three separate loans between 2022 and 2024, joining the likes of Stade Rennais, Leeds United and Genoa respectively – but he failed to deliver, leading to a permanent move away from the Lilywhites being mooted.

However, last season’s injury crisis handed him valuable minutes in the Premier League – subsequently ending up making a total of 35 appearances across all competitions in 2024/25.

At present, he’s a regular starter under Thomas Frank and is now a full England international – potentially taking the RB role from one other member in the squad.

Pedro Porro's lack of form for Spurs in 2025/26

After registering nine assists across all competitions last season, many Spurs fans will have been expecting Pedro Porro to kick on and reach the next level under Frank’s guidance.

However, the opening months of the season have been tricky for the Spaniard, with the full-back unable to match the expectations of the Lilywhites faithful in North London.

The 26-year-old may have started all but one league outing to date, but his underlying stats show how disappointing he’s been since the Dane took the reins in the off-season.

Porro currently ranks in just the 12th percentile for passes completed in the Premier League for 2025/26, highlighting his wasteful nature, which has seen him register just one assist.

The main asset of his game in recent times has been his ability to travel with the ball into dangerous areas and provide those in the box with the ammunition to find the back of the net.

However, the full-back has only completed 18% of his crosses in the Premier League to date, which ranks him in just the 40th percentile for full-backs at present.

Defensively, Porro has been just as lacklustre, winning just 4.2 duels per 90 and 1.2 tackles, with both figures putting him in the lower end of the table compared to other defenders.

His form will likely be a concern to Frank, with the Dane desperately needing to find an immediate solution to the problems facing him in the right-back area.

How Spurs can solve their Porro problem

Given the huge spending from the Spurs hierarchy in recent years, they will no doubt have huge expectations in Frank to guide the club up the league table in 2025/26.

After the first eight outings, the Lilywhites currently occupy eighth place, losing on just two occasions, but there’s no disputing the side could be in a much healthier position.

His men threw away a one-goal lead against Aston Villa in North London on Sunday, with such a result taking them just a couple of points off the summit had they held on.

The sheer volume of games that face the club this campaign will result in a serious rotation of players – with Archie Gray taking full advantage of his own opportunity on Tuesday.

Eyebrows were raised last summer when the board paid £40m for the 19-year-old’s signature – especially after he had just ended his only previous year as a professional with Leeds United the season prior.

Despite his tender age, he mirrored Spence in taking advantage of the injury crisis, subsequently making 46 appearances across all competitions – many of which were in an unfamiliar centre-back role.

However, despite his lack of action in his regular midfield role, he’s been hugely praised for his immediate impact in North London, with analyst Ben Mattinson dubbing him a “future £100m” talent.

Gray was handed his first Champions League start against Monaco earlier this week, operating in a left-back role, but once again showcasing his unbelievable quality.

The teenager won 100% of the tackles he entered, whilst also making four clearances and two interceptions – highlighting his incredible ability out of possession.

He was just as impressive with the ball at his feet, completing 90% of the passes he attempted, with three of which going into the final third, leading to him creating two chances in the process.

At just 19, there’s no denying Gray is a world-class talent with the world at his feet – but his versatility is one asset that could allow him to go one step further than most youngsters in the modern game.

He often featured at right-back during his time at boyhood club Leeds, with Frank desperately needing to utilise him in such a role going forward and drop Porro out of his immediate plans.

The Spaniard has been an excellent addition for the club, but it may be time for fresh blood to stake their claim for a regular starting role to help take the Lilywhites to the next level.

It was a tight game. Arguably neither side really deserved to take all three points home.

Yet, in title races, you need moments of magic. Dominik Szoboszlai was the man who provided it for Slot and Co in the Premier League on Sunday, striking home a sweet free kick.

That move will pave the way for Jakub Kiwior to depart the Emirates Stadium and he could be followed out the door by Oleksandr Zinchenko – linked with Marseille – and Reiss Nelson who, is wanted by Fulham.

Eberechi Eze may well have signed but there is still a craving for a left winger and that was rubber-stamped on Sunday.

Gabriel Martinelli began the game on the left flank but was hauled off on the 70th-minute mark having had one of his poorest games for the club.

The Brazilian was dominated by makeshift right back Szoboszlai, notably failing to register a shot, a key pass or complete a dribble.

So, how can Arsenal solve that issue?

Cast your minds back to the 2022/23 campaign. The Gunners are at their free-flowing best. Grant Xhaka is patrolling things from the middle of the park, Gabriel Jesus is dazzling up top and Oleksandr Zinchenko is inverting from left-back.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Martinelli were also combining to create one of the best attacks in the division. All three of them scored 15 goals throughout the campaign.

Since then, it’s been a tale of woe for him with the Gunners. He’s really struggled to replicate that form and the start to 2025/26 has been no better.

FFC handed the Brazilian a 3/10 rating for his efforts in Merseyside and it was justified for a complete lack of involvement. The forward is full of energy and pace but lacks end product, largely due to his indecisiveness when he gets the ball in and around the penalty area.

What Arsenal need is something different on that side of the pitch. Eze came on for the last 20 minutes and immediately looked a better asset, very nearly scoring.

But, if Arteta wanted to axe Martinelli for good, then signing a new winger would certainly go down a treat on deadline day.

Much of the summer’s chatter has been about Real Madrid’s Rodrygo but another player who could be on the market late on is Rafael Leao, valued at £86m.

Reports on Sunday suggested that Tottenham Hotspur were actually looking at doing a deal for the Portuguese, albeit it would be a very challenging deal to do this late in the window. Arsenal have previously been linked but it’s not known whether they still retain an interest.

So, why would he be a good signing? Well, the 26-year-old has notably been described as “one of the best left wingers in the world” by analyst Ben Mattinson.

The Milan winger has cultivated a reputation as one of the most exciting forwards in the game, scoring 12 times and also providing 13 assists in all competitions throughout last season. One year prior, the electric speedster scored 15 and managed 14 assists, showcasing why he’s so highly rated.

His style of play would also captivate the masses at the Emirates. Back in 2022, Milan coach Stefano Pioli said that “Leao reminds me a lot of the early Thierry Henry.”

Like the Arsenal legend, Leao boasts a quick and long stride pattern. He favours the left channel and he’s a monster if you allow him to cut inside.

Over the last year, the Milan attacker ranks among the best 4% of wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for successful take-ons, via FBref. To put that into context, Martinelli ranks among the best 25%, lagging behind Leao by some distance.

To put it simply, the Portugal international is better than Martinelli.

He has a level of incisiveness, a level of directness that simply isn’t there with the Brazilian. Signing him late in the window, particularly if they beat Spurs to his signature, would be one quick way to move on from their troubled number 11.

Just when Russell Martin thought things could not get any worse for him as Rangers manager, well….

On Wednesday night, the Gers were demolished 6-0 by Club Brugge at Jan Breydelstadion, all the goals coming in the first 50 minutes, before the Belgian side showed mercy.

Having also been humbled 3-1 at home, this 9-1 annihilation is the first time the Gers have conceded nine or more in a two-legged European tie since a 12-4 aggregate defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt all the way back in May 1960.

So, the Light Blues will now take their place in the Europa League, but will Martin still be in charge by the time they play their matchday one fixture in late-September?

Wednesday was only his tenth match in charge, but he’s yet to collect three points in the Premiership, drawing all three league games 1-1 to date, ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox.

Thus, Martin will be desperate to improve his squad ahead of Monday’s deadline, so could Rangers be about to bolster their midfield options?

Rangers' midfield conundrum

Ahead of the mid-week battering in Brugge, Martin’s midfield selection was the headline team news.

He elected to start three new signings, namely Joe Rothwell, Thelo Aasgaard and Lyall Cameron, thereby leaving last season’s player of the year Nicolas Raskin and his usual partner Mohamed Diomandé on the bench.

Both were introduced at half time, suggesting Martin recognised the error of his ways, but it would’ve been unthinkable last season that neither would be starting a do-or-die European tie, so is finding a third member of a midfield trio, one that gets the best out of them, a key item on their transfer window agenda?

Well, according to a report by Markaj News, Rangers are “monitoring” Real Valladolid midfielder Selim Amallah.

They add that the Moroccan international will almost certainly be on the move before the transfer window closes, following Blanquivioletas’ relegation from La Liga last season, with Ligue 1 outfit Angers also “very interested”.

What Selim Amallah would bring to Rangers

Amallah began his career in Belgium, the country of his birth, bouncing around a few smaller clubs before being picked up by Standard Liège in 2019, making 97 appearances for les Rouches, one of which came against Rangers in the Europa League in 2020, a game made famous by Kemar Roofe’s astonishing goal from inside his own half.

Since 2023, Amallah has called Spain home, joining Valladolid, spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Valencia after Blanquivioletas were relegated to the Segunda División, before returning to Valladolid again last season, although they were relegated once again.

Despite the fact his team won only four games all season, the Moroccan international largely impressed, with writer Kai Watson labelling him “versatile”, adding that he has been primarily “used in a deeper role” since moving to Spain, but possesses “flair and arrogance”, while also being technically strong and a “good ball carrier”.

So, let’s assess his statistics in La Liga last season.

As the table outlines, despite limited minutes due to injury, Amallah ranked generally pretty high for a wide variety of metrics at Valladolid last season.

He was a creative force, ranked in the top six for assists, key passes and progressive passes, while also doing the same when it came to out of possession defensive metrics too, namely blocks and ball recoveries.

All of this underlines why Amallah would surely complement Raskin well.

The Belgian is often asked to do everything in Rangers’ feeble midfield, required to both win the ball back and then create a moment of magic at the other end of the park.

So, having someone else who can do both would alleviate much of the responsibility that has been foisted upon Raskin’s shoulders, thereby helping to get the best out of Rangers’ best midfielder.

Thus, seemingly available at the cut-price, this is a deal the Light Blues should endeavour to get done because, well, he can’t be any worse than Rothwell can he?
