Ex drops Jesse Lingard to West Ham update

Via his Patreon account, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has just dropped an exciting West Ham transfer update involving Jesse Lingard.

The Lowdown: West Ham eye Lingard…

The Manchester United midfielder has been a target for David Moyes since before the beginning of this summer transfer window and Claret & Hugh believe that the 28-year-old has been among the Irons; main transfer priorities along with a striker and a centre-back.

However, a recent claim by Sky Sports indicated that a move for Lingard was looking increasingly unlikely, with the player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

Matheus Pereira was also taken off the table as an alternative target after his move to Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal.

The Latest: ExWHUemployee drops exciting Lingard update…

As per ExWHUemployee, there is now some real hope for the Hammers after all when it comes to signing Lingard on from the Red Devils before August 31.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-gossip/” title=”West Ham latest gossip…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It appears that the 28-year-old has pulled a U-turn on his West Ham stance and is ‘a lot more open’ to a London Stadium return. The player’s entourage are also said to be ‘making these feelings known’ to Manchester United, with Lingard’s future having not been assured.

West Ham are also expected to launch a bid for the attacker over these coming days and there is ‘renewed optimism’ that a deal could actually happen.

The Verdict: Very much needed…

It has been an arduous and at times painful summer for West Ham supporters given their lack of transfer business so far. Just over two weeks of the transfer window remain until the deadline and Moyes has still yet to see a major new outfield signing come through the door.

West Ham have only snapped up goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan deal from Paris-Saint Germain, so this update on Lingard should come as an exciting one for the Hammers faithful.

It provides fresh hope that Moyes could land one of his major targets after all and there could be many Irons supporters hoping that the ‘sensational’ player, as described by Nigel Winterburn (The Sun), finally signs on the dotted line.

ICC doesn't rule out Champions Trophy switch

Despite repeated statements from the ICC that the Champions Trophy will go ahead in Pakistan next month, suggestions that the tournament might be switched to an alternative country continue to circulate. David Richardson, the ICC’s general manager of cricket, said on Friday it was not too late to take such action. His comments come at a time when the ICC appears to be fighting a losing battle in its bid to persuade players from several countries that there are not major safety issues over staging the event in Pakistan. “We’re very short of time now,” Richardson said after meeting with James Sutherland, Cricket Australia’s chief executive, Paul Marsh, the head of the Australian Cricketers’ Association, and Australia’s captain and vice captain Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke. “If we’re going to relocate now it needs to be made within the next few days. Operationally it would be difficult, but it’s certainly not an option that would be discarded at this point and it could be relocated.”Although the ICC has issued vehement denials, there continue to be reports in the English media that some Test grounds there are on standby to host games at short notice. However, should players refuse to travel to Pakistan then the ICC’s hand might be forced. Were that to happen, the ICC would face substantial financial penalties from ESS, who have a long-term broadcasting contract with them. That stipulates that if the venues for any major tournament are switched at less than three months’ notice then they will be entitled to compensation that is likely to run into millions of dollars. The ICC had hoped that the findings of its fact-finding mission to Pakistan earlier this week would sway players wavering over playing, but it seems not to have worked. Meetings with New Zealand and Australia team members are reported to have been less than productive. The ICC will meet players from England and South Africa next week and much could depend on their reaction. Were only one country to decline to send a side, then the ICC would in all likelihood replace them with Bangladesh, ranked ninth in the ODI rankings at the time of the qualification cut-off date in March. Were two to back out then in theory Ireland, ranked tenth, would be invited.

Everton: Joaquin Correa offer rejected

Everton have seen a bid for Joaquin Correa rejected by Lazio, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The lowdown

Correa, who can play as a forward, a number ten and a left-sided attacker, was directly involved in 11 Serie A goals last season, scoring eight and setting up another three (via WhoScored).

He also represented Lazio in the Champions League, scoring a consolation goal in a 4-1 round of 16 first leg defeat against Bayern Munich which all but eliminated the Italian outfit.

The Argentine joined from Sevilla ahead of the 2018/19 season for a fee of £13.77m, committing to a six-year contract on arrival (via Transfermarkt).

The latest

The report from Tutto Mercato Web states that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is holding firm in his valuation of €25m-€30m (£21.6m-£25.4m) for Correa. Both Everton and Arsenal have seen offers dismissed because they fall short of that bracket.

The duo face competition from Italy in the form of Inter Milan, but Aston Villa have also emerged as a domestic rival for his signature following Jack Grealish’s departure.

The sale of Correa is viewed by Lazio as a means of meeting Serie A’s financial requirements and registering their new signings. As it stands, the new arrivals can’t ‘play official matches’.

The verdict

Perhaps Everton should play the long game here. Lazio might grow increasingly desperate and may be willing to compromise on the price tag as the clock ticks closer to the transfer deadline. They won’t want to risk a fallout with Maurizio Sarri over their inability to register signings.

However, that would be a risky approach for the Blues as well, because it means the likes of Villa, for whom the fee may be less of a concern after a £105.75m influx from the sale of Grealish, could swoop in and agree a fee for the 26-year-old.

In other news, Everton are fielding offers for this player.

West Brom fans react to Tristan Rowe exit

Aston Villa have completed the signing of West Bromwich Albion youngster Triston Rowe.

Rowe, an England Under-15 international, follows Tim Iroegbunam in leaving the Baggies’ youth set-up for their Midlands rivals.

Iroegbunam was fast-tracked to the Under-23s last season, and his performances earned him the Academy Player of the Year award (via Birmingham Mail). Villa will have to pay six-figure compensation after striking the deal.

And a third West Brom starlet could yet make the switch. Football Insider reported earlier in July that Villa had reached an agreement with 20-year-old midfielder Finn Azaz, and that move could be tied-up ‘soon’.

West Brom are back in the Championship after their Premier League return lasted just a single season. They amassed only 26 points over the course of the 38-game season, leaving them a full 13 points adrift of safety.

Fan feed WBA Report relayed the news about Rowe, and here’s what supporters made of it.

Liverpool’s transfer plan

Liverpool will reportedly be forced to sell some of their fringe players before they can make any more signings this summer.

What’s the story?

According to well-known journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Reds need to offload some unwanted talent in order to finance further forrays into the transfer market.

Speaking on the Anfield Watch YouTube channel, he went into some detail about who Jurgen Klopp may look to sell over the coming months.

“100% yes, from what I’m told, the first step is selling some players, attacking players. So Origi, but in particular Shaqiri, so the first position is Shaqiri, selling Shaqiri, they need to sell some players, it’s important for Liverpool,” Romano claimed.

“Once they’ve sold some players, they can move for some new wingers as I said because they are looking at this position, and then they will move for a new midfielder if they have the right opportunity.”

Fans will be concerned

Liverpool have already added former RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate to their ranks in a £34 million deal, but further reinforcements may be required in they plan on reeling in Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s charges finished a whopping 17 points ahead of the Anfield outfit last term as they claimed their third Premier League title in four years, highlighting the gulf in class between the two teams.

Therefore, news that Klopp may not have the resources to make further additions will surely leave the club’s supporters feeling very concerned.

The departure of Gini Wijnaldum and the poor form of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has seen the likes of Saul Niguez and Domenico Berardi heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, although their potential arrivals have now been thrown into serious doubt.

Fringe players such as Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic have all attracted interest from clubs either in England or across the continent, but their departures are far from guaranteed.

It leaves the 19-time English champions in a state of limbo, waiting for other sides to take their unwanted assets off their hands before they’re able to strengthen.

Klopp will be hoping for several quick sales to bolster the coffers, but it’s rarely that simple in football.

This is concerning news for Reds fans, who’d be hoping for their club to get some new faces through the door sooner rather than later.

Nesta sexta, o Verdão recebe o Novorizontino no estádio municipal, e a praça Charles Miller ficará fechada desde as 15h.

Leeds United can sign a new Raphinha in Madueke

Leeds United could sign another Raphinha in PSV starlet Noni Madueke, and the England U21 international appears to be a perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that the Whites have reignited their interest in the PSV Eindhoven winger after some third-party discussions, and now, former Leeds man David Norris has thrown his backing behind a potential move.

He said exclusively to Football FanCast: “That high intensity all the time, I don’t always think is going to work because teams will just step off and let them do their thing or play a bit longer and take that out of it.

“Teams are going to know more about them, so they might need a couple of different ways and options of playing. I think his composure is his big thing and he looks like he can play.”

Perfect for Bielsa

With nine goals and eight assists in all competitions last season, Madueke really took his game to another level with PSV in 2020/21, so much so that he earned a call-up to the England under-21 setup, where former manager Aidy Boothroyd talked up his potential.

He said: “He’s a powerhouse of a player, technically very good, left-footed and likes to come in off the side of the pitch, off the right and go and link. He’s got a goal in him, he’s very creative. He’s got a massive smile, a lovely kid. The lads have taken to him, as they would because he’s a good player, he has that respect for what he’s done at PSV.”

His ability to beat players one on one, and of course that natural instinct to come inside onto his stronger left foot, sees obvious comparisons to Raphinha and why Bielsa would no doubt love him at Elland Road.

Former PSV ace Tommie van de Leegte raved about the 19-year-old’s style of play, saying (via Goal): “He’s fast and has the capability to trick his opponent. He brings creativity and is very explosive in his actions.”

Just like Raphinha, who scored six and set up another nine, Madueke can make the difference either as someone to take chances, or create them given his own record last year.

Given that ability to take players on, and the fact he doesn’t shy away from pressing from the front (he won 51% of his duels last season, more than the likes of Raphinha and Jack Harrison), he appears to be a perfect fit for Bielsa.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have reignited their interest in this “top player”…
